Huawei Technologies' new $2,800 tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT, has hit the market, but many eager buyers were left disappointed due to limited availability.

China’s top smartphone maker Huawei Technologies Co announced that its new trifold smartphone, Mate XT, will launch on September 20, 2024, with prices starting at over $2,800. The move marks Huawei’s attempts to snatch the premium smartphone market share of Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone.

The tech brand will hold a launch event in China on September 10, at which it is expected to announce a Z-shaped, triple-fold phone called the Huawei Mate XT. This lets a standard phone-shape silhouette open up into a 10-inch screen larger even than that of today’s foldable designs.
