A decade-old picture of a Philippine city flattened by Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms ever recorded, has resurfaced in social media posts that falsely portrayed it as showing the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

The typhoon, described by Vietnamese meteorological authorities as "one of the most powerful typhoons in the region over the past decade." Four airports were shuttered, including in Hanoi, and Haiphong.

Vietnam is preparing for more flooding with a tropical depression forecast to strengthen into a storm as it heads to its central coast, days after typhoon Yagi set off floods and landslides that killed more than 290 people in the north.

Typhoon Yagi, the strongest in Asia this year, has caused an estimated VND50 trillion ($2 billion) in damages to Vietnam as of Wednesday, and the figure continues to climb.
