Junior doctors in West Bengal have partially returned to work after a 42-day protest following the rape and murder of a female doctor. They are attending to essential and emergency services but avoiding outpatient departments.

Doctors in West Bengal have rejoined their duties partially at various government-run hospitals in essential and emergency services, but not in the outpatient department (OPD).

Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Thursday issued a list of directives on the safety, security and conducive environment for healthcare professionals, saying those orders need to be implemented immediately. The directives came a day after the government held a meeting with agitating junior doctors over the same issues.

Sandip Ghosh, former RG Kar Hospital Principal, was arrested by the CBI on September 14. The CBI is investigating him in two cases - the Kolkata rape and murder case and RG Kar financial irregularities case.
